Snow and Business Don't Mix
Posted by

snow2.jpgSnow days on Long Island are great for kids, but not so hot for local businesess, as the top photo shows.
That's a view of the street outside the building where Business Know-How has its office. It's usually a busy road - it runs down one side of a busy shopping mall. But, today, as you can see from the photo,

there's not much traffic.

I just looked at the weather forecast for Islip, NY (which isn't far from here), and the "current" forecast says we'll get 9 to 13 inches of snow. We had at least a foot of snow here at 9 AM and it's been snowing pretty heavily ever since. So I suspect it will be closer to 15 inches of snow out our way (Suffolk County, NY) by the time the snow stops.

Note: the little dog in this photo isn't real. It's a garden decoration - you can't see it, but it's holding a solar-powered lantern in its mouth.

A note for those of you who have sideline businesses plowing out homeowner's driveways, here's a tip: Get out there EARLY. We had just finished shoveling out our pretty big driveway when a couple of guys drove slowly down the street with a snow blower in the back of their pickup truck. They did get one job at the house across the street from ours, but if they had come earlier they would have gotten our driveway to clear out, too.
