Small Business Outlook Survey Results
Posted by Janet Attard

How are small businesses doing in the current economy? Are all businesses equally effected? What steps are they taking to make it through the recession? What do they wish the government would do to help make it through the year? These are some of the questions we sought to answer in our 2009 Small Business Outlook survey, which we ran in March.

Read what the survey results show about the effect of the recession on small businesses, and if you have comments of your own to add, please leave them here on the blog.

On a related note, if you would like to be interviewed about what your business has done to successfully attract customers during the recession, please send email to studio@businessknowhow.com.

Janet,

I was looking through the survey results and found the section, “What are small businesses doing to get through the recession” to be the most interesting. Many small businesses responded by increasing their sales and marking. I agree, but only when targeted effectively.

For most small businesses referrals are the best way to generate more revenue. Your marketing strategy should focus on your referral partners because they are the ones who will send you qualified leads that are mostly likely to end in a sale. This new revenue should help get you through the recession.

Great article. The optimism of the data doesn’t surprise me.

The small and home-based business owners with whom I’ve worked are some of the most innovative persons in corporate America. So it would make sense that, although they are going to be affected by the economy on some level, they aren’t going to allow it to stop them from pursuing their passions.

I wonder if larger companies’ execs would be as equally positive about their ability to survive the downturn?
