Hurricane Irene Aftermath on Long Island
Posted by

As you probably heard on the news, Long Island got through Hurricane Irene with a lot less damage than we anticipated. On both the North Shore and the South Shore, there was extensive flooding and damage, but in areas that weren't affected by the storm surge, the issue was downed trees - and the resulting power outages. The one below is a rather "small" tree that split and hung over the wires on a side street near our office.

downedtree.jpgThere was a huge tree down hanging on the power lines and stretched across the 4-lane main road near the office ( Middle Country Road / Route 25 - police had it blocked off, so I couldn't get close enough to get a photo.).

We're fortunate that none of our employees suffered any major damage to their property, and that power was restored pretty quickly to the area our office is in. Some areas nearby are still without power, though.

Our hearts and prayers go out to others on Long Island and the East Coast who did not fare as well as we did. We hope the cleanup and restoration goes as quickly and as well as possible.
