Pull In Customers With Local Newspaper Ads

by Janet Attard

People who read classified ad sections and the service directory display ads in local newspapers or weekly "shoppers" are great prospects for many businesses. The reason: they're ready to buy. They already know what they want. You don't have to sell them on installing a new sprinkler system, putting up new siding, or relaxing at your spa. They just want to find a business to provide the service they want.

To tap into this pool of ready-to-buy customers, study the classified ads and the bigger display ads on pages near the classified section to see what types of businesses are advertising, and what advertising headings are in place. If there are one or more headings appropriate for your type of product or service and there are a number of businesses advertising under that heading, the publication is probably a good place for you to be. To be sure, get back copies of the publication. Compare the ads to determine if the same businesses that were advertising in the past are still advertising now.

Janet, I use classified's whenever I wanted to test a Headline for a Direct Mail Sales Piece. It's cheaper and you can find out quickly, it the headline pulls.

Thanks

Are you serious? Newspapers are not the way to go. Everybody knows readership and subscribership has continued to decline for years. Bad advice from you folks.

It depends what type of business you run, where you are located and how well read the local papers are. There are some businesses that still get far more leads from newspaper ads than they get or could get from web advertising or any other type of ads.
