Ask about the Return Policy and Warranty before You Buy
by Janet Attard
Not all equipment or software can be returned. When it can be returned, the time frame and method or return may have changed since the last time you made a purchase from the same store. Find out how long you have to return the item and whether or not they charge a restocking fee to take the merchandise back. (A restocking fee is usually a percentage of the original purchase prices, sometimes as high as 15%).
If you purchased the item through the Internet or mail order, find out when the return period begins. Is it when you receive the item or when it was shipped from their factory? Check, too, on whether a returned item has to reach them before the cutoff date for returns, or just be shipped by you before that date. And, don't forget to find out what kind of warranty comes with the equipment.
