Online, one of the easiest ways of asking is to run a short poll. You can run the poll yourself by gathering responses by email, or you can use an online survey service like SurveyGizmo that will help you track and analyze results.
When you design your survey, be sure to include some open-ended questions, and be careful how you word the questions so you don't influence how people answer.
