Are you getting ready to blast out a press release announcing your new business, new product or some other bit of news you'd like publicized? Before you do, consider this: You may be able to save time and money and get more publicity by targeting just a handful of reporters with your release.
How? The trick is to learn what media and what websites get syndicated out to other sites. Then find who writes about your industry in the publications that get syndicated. Send those reporters your press release, or call and pitch them your story. If they pick it up, you may wind up getting a lot more publicity than you would have by broadcasting a press release across the wire services.
