Whether you're attending a trade show as exhibitor or a visitor it's easy to get distracted from your goals for being at the show. Without a plan and goals for "working" the show, you are likely to come away from the show with a fishbowl full of business cards from unknown visitors or an armload of sales literature that won't do your business much good.
To make sure you stay focused during the show, decide what you want to accomplish before you leave your office. Set specific, measurable goals. How many sales do you want to make during the show? How many leads do you want to acquire? What new products do you want to look at? What sales agents do you want to meet with? Write the goals out on paper and bring them to the show. Periodically throughout the show compare your progress to your stated goals.
