Make Them Remember What You Said
by Janet Attard
It's easy to get an audience's attention at the beginning of a presentation with a funny joke or a personal story, but how do you get them to focus on what you say next - and more importantly remember the important points of your presentation tomorrow and next week?
Here are some quick tips:
- Tell or remind the audience why the subject you're addressing is important
- List the major points you'll be covering in your talk or demonstration
- When you've finished your presentation, summarize the major points and/or solutions you've presented
- Give the audience handouts or whitepapers or other documents as takeaways to remember the key points
- Ask members of the audience to tell the group their main takeaways
