Previous: Singing the Ecommerce Blues? by Janet Attard Is finding the money to start your business holding you back? If so, consider keeping your day job and starting your business as a sideline operation. Doing so will allow you to keep money coming in to pay personal expenses until the business makes enough money on a steady basis to make leaving your day job financially feasible. Don't plan on starting the business when you have some spare time, though. If you don't layout a specific timetable, the startup will never happen. Create a reasonable plan and stick to it. Make a list of the tasks you have to tackle, assign start dates and completion dates to each, then work on them one by one. Work on your startup tasks after supper each day instead of watching TV. Get up earlier on the weekends and spend the extra hours working on the business. Use your time more efficiently on your day job so you can leave on time. Or, if possible, adjust your work schedule so you can avoid rush hour (thereby cutting your commuting time.) Home-based service businesses and ecommerce businesses are the best candidates for this kind of moonlight operation. To avoid losing sales, have voice mail on your business line, and try to get back to all callers within 24 hours. More: Can You Turn Your Great Idea into a Hot New Business? I have been described as 'time poor' to be able to get through all the initial start up activities and marketing. But, in fact, because you're short on time, you focus more on what needs to be done at the right time. Posted by: Bobby Gechie on July 31, 2008 at 6:43 AM I am 30 years, male and citizen of nigeria. Good Morning,
This article is extremely valuable to me. For about 6 months I have been ready, studying, developing and investing in several avenues of home-business and consulting. I am employed full time with an extreme amount of flex-time during the day to pursue my own interests. I do alot of community service, board of directors on many community based organizations, but I still find myself unable to grab hold of something solid. I am just NOT producing any results. Do you have any advice?
