CONTEST
Starting a business is easy. Making it work, isn't. That's why we'd like to hear your tips and hints for running small and homebased businesses. And, to encourage you to pass them along, we are giving away a copy of Palo Alto Software's top-rated program, Business Plan Pro, plus a copy of my book to the person who posts the most good tips and hints in our web message board in the next two weeks (May 6 - May 20). Two runners up will each receive a copy of my book. What we are looking for are ideas for making any phase of running a business easier, more efficient, more profitable. Ideas for collecting from customers, finding new customers, cutting costs, saving time, getting financing, etc, are all welcome. The complete rules are posted in our message boards at http://www.businessknowhow.net/cgi-bin/
Ultimate.cgi
or click on the message board link at http://www.businessknowhow.com

MESSAGE BOARD EXPANDED
We've expanded our message boards on the web and added a few new discussion areas. We hope you'll use the newly expanded area to share ideas, get answers to questions, share your expertise and talk with others in your industry. Invite your business acquaintances to use the boards, too. We now have sections for getting help with starting your business, running an existing business, running Internet businesses, professional practices and discussing legal issues. There's also a free classified advertising section that we hope you'll use to post notices when you have excess inventory, new products for sale, or need to find people to whom you can outsource work when you get jobs in that are bigger than you can handle. (Please do not post spam or get rich quick ads there and if you see ads of spam posted, send email to AdminStaff@businessknowhow.com. ) Click on the message board link at http://www.businessknowhow.com to reach the boards.

FIND SUPPLIERS AND GET FOUND
Finding good suppliers and service providers for your business is as important as having a steady stream of customers. And, as our National Small Business Directory grows, it's getting easier to find small business suppliers. Just search for them by type of business, state, zip code, phone or other criteria you want to look up. You'll find manufacturers, web designers, people who repair computers and office machines, direct marketers, and thousands of other businesses. If you haven't already entered a listing for your company, do it today before you forget so you can get found too.

NY GOVERNOR'S ECONOMIC SUMMIT FOR WOMEN
If any of you are planning to attend the NY Governor's Economic Summit for Women on May 15, I hope you'll look for me and say hello. I've been invited to give a workshop on running a home business in the Internet age, and I'll have a booth in their technology pavilion as well. The Summit is in Albany. Just as an aside, I decided it was time to have a tabletop display made up to use at trade shows. Having it created turned out to be a good example of how the Internet makes it possible to work anywhere for anyone. Michele Marr (HOSTBKHMisha@aol.com), who designed the display for me, lives in California and I live in NY. A few email consultations, one quick phone conversation an Instant Message or two and then two jpg files showing the layout was all that were needed to get the display created. Check out the results: http://www.businessknowhow.com/aboutus.htm

BILL PAYING, SIMPLIFIED
Hate paying bills? So do a lot of people, and not surprisingly, there are new companies springing up almost daily that want to take away your pain. Read about them in our tip of the week on our main page: http://www.businessknowhowhow.com

WHAT BUSINESSES CAN LEARN FROM DISNEY
The key to running a profitable business is to satisfy your customer. And, no one knows how to do that better than the folks at Disney. Learn what you can do to put smiles on your customers' faces.

WORKING OR SURFING?
What are your employees doing when they are using the Internet? If you don't know, you should. Ignorance and failure to implement an Internet policy could cost you plenty. Here's why:
