Letter to an Older Child
by Doris Rickard
Dear Holly,
Ho, Ho, Ho, and Merry Christmas! Things are very busy here at the North
Pole, but when your your Granny dropped me a note and told me what a good
girl you were, I had to write. She said you have been doing a great job of
vacuuming and babysitting. I just want you to know how proud I am of
you.
The elves and I are taking a break and munching down Mrs. Claus'
chocolate chip cookies, and I thought this would be a good time to see if
I can figure out how this computer works. I have lots of letters to write,
and the elves tell me this would be the quickest way. Personally, I think
these new fangled computers are meant for younger folks!
I know you can't wait until we land on your roof in Farmington, ME on
Christmas Eve. We'll try to be quiet so we don't wake up your dog
"Boots" and your cats "Princess" and "Mischief". I
sure don't want them to get into the Christmas presents and make a mess!
We'll be sure to pack the sleigh real tight, so we can fit your brother
Jonathan, and your sisters Caroline, and Andrea's gifts on the sleigh too. We
just added on another compartment so we can fit even more toys.
Soon you'll have a fun vacation from Farmington High School. That
will give you some extra time to visit with your friends Jessica, Rachel, and
Larry. The elves tell me that soon I'll be "surfing
the net" and visiting with my friends, but first I have to figure out
where the "print" button is, so I can send this letter.
Well, I need to go and get the elves back to work. While I was on my
computer, they decided to test out the newest Nintendo game, and now no
one is building toys. I'll see you soon. A few cookies, a glass of milk,
and a couple of carrots for the reindeer would be nice on Christmas Eve.
Remember, the real celebration of Christmas is Jesus birth!
Love,
Santa Claus
